New Sidebar List

And for a friend who was reading my library list a few weeks ago, I thought I'd create a list of our favorite children's books. We own many of our favorites (thanks to great thrifting & generous grandparents), and so they are not included on our library list.

So, here's for you, Friend...a list of favorite children's books. Check out my sidebar!

Children's Book List 2007

These are the children's books we checked out from the library in 2007 in alphabetical order. I realized the other day that the list is not complete because I couldn't find the title of a book I know we checked out in March! Wish I could find that title... Library List Continues

Some new ones:

In Rosa's Mexico by Campbell Geeslin, Illustrated by Andrea Arroyo
We haven't read all of this one yet, but it's a very fanciful book about Rosa, violetas, her mother's soup, and their cooking pot.

Rain Makes Applesauce by Julian Scheer, Illustrated by Marvin Bileck
This is an enormously strange book of silly talk with equally strange illustrations. It's worth it just for reading something totally out of the ordinary. It's a Caldecott Honor Book, too!

Inch by Inch: The Garden Song by David Mallet, Illustrated by Ora Eitan
This is a picture book of the Inch by Inch song we have on our Peter, Paul & Mary album. Mane loves to read the book and then hear the song. There's something amazing about something being in two places and two different mediums.

The Tale of Rabbit and Coyote by Tony Johnston, Illustrated by Tomie dePaola
This is the favorite of the four books we last checked out. It's very reminiscent of Brer Rabbit stories, but this one comes from Oaxaca, Mexico, and includes some new Spanish words for us to learn.

Sumner Library

First, Mane read her first book last night!! It was a Henry & Mudge pre-level 1 book. She's been able to sound out words for a long time, but she hasn't been interested in actually reading and didn't seem to make the connection that sounding out words meant she could actually read something meaningful. Well, last night she took a big leap after we visited the library. She was showing lots of interest in the early reader books. So, we brought some home. And she decided to just do it. ....of course, as is typical with her whenever she makes a huge learning leap, she was crabbier than ever today, and I expect a rough weekend. She was like that with learning to crawl, walk, talk, etc... Every major developmental leap warrants an emotional week.

Ok, second, here's the new book list after our library visit yesterday afternoon:

Madeline Says Merci by John Bemelmans Marciano

Friends by Elaine Scott

The Berenstain Bear's Seashore Treasure by Stan & Jan Berenstain

Puppy Mudge Has a Snack by Cynthia Rylant

Puppy Mudge Takes a Bath by Cynthia Rylant

How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World by Marjorie Priceman

Hip to Crochet by Judith Swartz

Kids Crochet by Kelli Ronci
