Music Monday - Stay With You

This music is a little harder than most I've posted here so far. I like some good rock music once in a while, though. And this is my blog, so...

This is probably one of Mango's favorite "love" songs. I told you that we here at our house are in love with love, and we're a very intense crowd. Sometimes that intensity can only be captured with intense music. Mango says this song is about being with someone no matter what life throws at you. Whatever it is that you have to face in life, this song is about facing it together, grasping hands & running together...

Emerging

Once again, I feel that I'm emerging from miles under the sea. We here at The Midnight Cafe have been busy. Life has been full. And it seems like years have passed since I last had space in my mind to really think. As you can see from the photos, Vespera & Novio both graduated this month. Both graduated with high honors. And now they're preparing for college...for life beyond those thirteen years of required education.

In the week after Vespera's graduation we frantically made plans for her party. We planned a party with her birth family that combined the quinceanera that she never had with her graduation. She did much of the planning herself, as each person who contributed to the party had to contact her to make their plans. It was an amazing amount of work. We did a lot of clothes shopping, dance practice, and gluing little orange ribbons around the napkins in that week before the party. When it was all over Vespera declared, "That was SO much fun, and I am never, ever doing that again." Sounds exactly how someone ought to sound when it's all over. ;)

Three days after the party we left on a camping trip...Mango & I, Vespera, Mane & Novio. The trip was also some kind of crazy whirlwind: Rain at night, campfire food, a movie in Rochester, picnics in various parks, naps in the park, swimming in the Whitewater River, tubing down the Cannon River, shopping in Redwing, exploring Alexis Bailey Vineyard, and taking a LOT of pictures!

Three days after that we went to Vespera's college orientation. She spent the night at the college and made some friends (not surprisingly) already.

Tomorrow Vespera will be leaving for French Camp.

Whew.

Music Monday - Cinderella

This was the song for the waltz at Vespera's graduation party...because she loves it. It's hard for me to hear it without thinking of Maria Chapman, though I know the song was written about watching our children grow up, not about them passing on to heaven. And I don't know that I totally agree with the idea that the clock strikes midnight & our children are gone when they leave home or get married or whatever. They don't leave our lives. Life never, ever stays the same. It's always changing and morphing into something else, but the love is still there, the connection, the attachment. I'm glad Mr. Chapman added to the song later about the dance going on because it's true. It's not just true after this life, though. It's true here and now. The dance changes, the music and the rhythm and the tempo all change. But the dance does, indeed, go on. There's a certain pain in knowing we won't always be our children's primary attachment person. But we don't ever walk away, turn our backs, or stop dancing.

I agree that we need to enjoy the time we have. We need to play and talk and listen and sing and laugh, camp, rollerblade, take pictures, stay up late, share music, and spend the time and the energy because there won't always be so much time. We must remember, though, that it's ok when they move on, when they develop other deep friendships, when they meet their soulmate because it isn't over for us then. It's new and different. But there's joy in the knowing that they have found themselves, their groove, their partner, and they are developing their own legacy. If we have done our job well as parents, they won't run away when the clock strikes midnight, though. We'll continue to dance, have tea, tell stories, write e-mails, have parties, share love, sorrow, joy...

So, take it in whatever way you wish. Here's the song...

Belated Music Monday - Tiempo De Vals

This song is a traditional quinceanera song, which is the sort of party we're having for Vespera in a few weeks along with her graduation. It was hard to find a youtube video that I really liked, and I finally settled on one with lots of sweet anime characters. If you don't like anime, just close your eyes and listen...

As an aside, Novio walked into the living room while I was playing this song and stood mesmerized. He finally commented, "It really gets you in your heart, doesn't it?"

Enjoy.

Here are the lyrics in Spanish and the English translation:

TIEMPO DE VALS

Tiempo de vals es el tiempo hacia atras
donde hascer lo de siempre es volver a empezar
donde el mundo se para y te observa girar
es tiempo para amar

Tiempo de vals tiempo pare sentir
y decir sin hablar y escuchar sin oir
un silencio que rompe en el aire un violin
es tiempo de vivir

Besame en tiempo de vals
un dos tres un dos tres
sin parar de bailar
haz que este tiempo de vals
un dos tres un dos tres
no termine jamas

TIME OF WALTZ

Time of waltz is the time backwards
Where the performance is always to return to begin
Where you watch the world spin
It is time to love

Time of waltz time to feel
And to say without speaking and listen without hearing
A silence that breaks in the air a violin
It is time to live

Kiss me in time of waltz
One two three one two three
Without stopping to dance
Face this time of waltz
One two three one two three
It never finishes

Time of waltz time to travel
Over the sun below the sea
Without knowing if I take you or let myself be taken
It is really not time

Time of waltz time to embrace
The passion that you prefer and to rotate
And to rise like a violent hurricane
It is time to spiral
Kiss me in time of waltz

Time of waltz that we both used
Drawing in the ground of an old hall
With three passages of dance a history of love
It is time and it is in end
My time for you
